Interactions Style

As with all types, ESTPs lie at the intersection between one expression style and one worldview. They have the structure interaction style, meaning that they are direct, initiating, and outcome-oriented, and the Artisan SP temperament, meaning that they are interest-based, pragmatic, and concrete.

  • Direct: They say what they mean and mean what they say, often coming across as succinct and to the point.

  • Initiating: They prefer to go to other people and start conversations or experiences rather than being led. They enjoy leading the way in making new memories with others.

  • Outcome: They are concerned about outcomes and like to make plans with a specific outcome in mind before taking action.

Worldview

  • Interest-Based: ESTPs are very aware of what they're getting out of an interaction or investment. They value loyalty, reliability, and consistency in relationships.

  • Pragmatic: They approach problems with a "what's the best way to fix this" attitude and rarely ask for permission or seek approval from authorities.

  • Concrete: They focus on the here and now, dealing with concrete facts and tested evidence rather than theories and possibilities.

Cognitive Functions

Se Hero

ESTPs have extraverted sensing hero (Se Hero). They are very aware of other people's experiences and seek to make others comfortable and perform well to gain their attention. They are often talented in performance, whether in sports, acting, or other areas requiring audience engagement.

Ti Parent

Introverted thinking parent (Ti Parent) processes information quickly, troubleshoots effectively, and excels at logical precision. ESTPs are skilled at finding weaknesses in arguments and problem-solving.

Fe Child

Extraverted feeling child (Fe Child) seeks to make others feel good and often adopts the values of those around them. ESTPs are generous and giving but may expect reciprocity if enough time has passed without receiving it.

Ni Inferior

Introverted intuition inferior (Ni Inferior) makes ESTPs fearful of losing their freedom and hesitant to make decisions. They often struggle with choices, fearing that one decision will close off all other possibilities.

Si Nemesis

Si Nemesis can make ESTPs nostalgic about the past and worried about not having good memories. They may struggle with consistency and discipline, even though they desire good outcomes.

Te Critic

Te Critic can make ESTPs appear to think others are less intelligent. They may need to learn how to make others smarter by asking questions and providing explanations.

Fi Trickster

ESTPs have difficulty understanding their own feelings and values. They may struggle with expressing gratitude and appear amoral, but it's more about their inability to properly value things.

Ne Demon

ESTPs fear losing their freedom of choice and can be anxious about making decisions. They despise the idea of not having a choice and should always be given options.

Four Sides of the Mind

With respect to the four sides of the mind, the ESTP ego has INFJ subconscious, ISTJ unconscious, and ENFP superego.

ESTP Ego

The ESTP ego's maturity comes from developing their Ti Parent. Taking responsibility for accuracy, truth, and logical precision can lead to maturity and help others through their natural desire to assist.

INFJ Subconscious

The ESTP's pathway to happiness lies in their INFJ subconscious. They aspire to become sages, mentors, and counselors, helping others become stronger and more in touch with themselves. They value deep connections with a few people.

ISTJ Unconscious

The ISTJ unconscious represents the ESTP's path to wisdom. Pursuing academic interests, history, and intellectual pursuits can lead to wisdom. They may become interested in education and teaching.

ENFP Superego

The ENFP superego reveals the ESTP's path to love. It's where their hate, bitterness, and resentment are stored. ESTPs can provide freedom to others but need to realize the consequences of their actions on others' futures.

Octagram

Subconscious Developed, Subconscious Focused (SDSF): "Attention-Seeking Performer"

SDSF ESTPs have a highly developed ego and seek attention as a means to feel connected. They derive their sense of identity from performance, craving attention for every success and failure. These ESTPs are often seen in roles that guarantee public attention, like sports or entertainment, where they can consistently perform and be in the limelight. They may struggle with feelings of loneliness when attention wanes and often rely on their performance to feel validated.

Summary

ESTPs may initially come across as shallow and flaky but can become compassionate, intelligent, and helpful individuals who provide strength and wisdom to those around them.
