Expression Style

As is the case with all personality types, the INFP lies at the intersection between a specific expression style and a specific worldview. They're one of the four background types, meaning that their communication style is informative, responding, and outcome.

Informative: INFPs prevent or cause misinformation by being in control of what gets shared into thought spaces. They are often responsible for what gets published in media. On a more micro-level, INFPs provide people clues as to how they feel instead of making it obvious.

Responding: INFPs put themselves in a position of power by responding to others instead of initiating interaction. They are usually shy as Wallflowers.

Outcome: They need to take their time in everything they do. They work to get everything in order first to take one attempt to accomplish a goal. They are prone to stagnation if they do not feel pushed to keep accomplishing.

Worldview

INFPs are part of the Idealist worldview or the NF temperament, meaning that they are abstract, affiliative, and interest-based.

Abstract: INFPs are commonly known as dreamers. They live in their own heads as much as they do the real world.

Affiliative: INFPs love to be on a team. They feel unsafe without group consensus there to protect them. They depend on groupthink to understand the world.

Interest: INFPs take things on a case-by-case basis because they're trying to evaluate what specific value any situation brings to each person involved. They are keenly aware of people's agendas.

Cognitive Functions

Fi Hero

INFPs lead with sympathy in relationships. They put themselves in other people's shoes and determine how such a situation would make them feel. INFPs put effort into their ideals and invest in people who help them realize those ideals. The sacrifices they make for others are a sign of their gratitude. They have an easy time handling priorities. They evaluate how important anything is to them to determine how much it is worth spending effort on.

Ne Parent

INFPs give choices to other people with the goal of becoming a choice themselves. They look for ways to increase their desirability. They understand that providing people with options gives them leverage. They notice patterns across several data points, which leads them to have excellent predictive capabilities. Given this, they thrive in the financial world because they can read the market well and manage accounts with extreme attention to detail. INFPs embrace possibilities other people would not consider.

Si Child

INFPs have the pure form of loyalty. They follow a routine that enables them to maintain this level of devotion. The risk of this is that they only spend the priorities on themselves, putting all their effort into making themselves comfortable without doing anything for other people. Exhausted from their efforts, INFPs know the importance of rest more than anybody else. They are often the laziest of all the types. The upper limit of their strength is unfathomably high when they turn their comfort zone into a zen-like state of sheer concentration. Nothing can push them off balance.

Te Inferior

INFPs deeply care about their status. They are afraid of people thinking poorly of them. They achieve credentials to try to bolster their reputation. The only way they can truly be in control of their stature is to take a risk and expose their true selves to the world. If they do not do this, they will be fettered by blackmail. INFPs hate being criticized. They cannot stand people being arrogant enough to tear down their ego investments. It is best to gather a group of people to give them advice instead of approaching them one-on-one. INFPs benefit the most from reading. Gathering reference material will help them see themes more clearly to be able to add color to their predictions.

Fe Nemesis

INFPs worry that they are not giving enough because they take so much for themselves. They are empathetic to other people's pain, recognizing that as sensitive as they are, other people often suffer even more than they do.

Ni Critic

Ni Critic causes INFPs to be stuck in life. They really struggle to find their way forward as they pick apart every single option and find too many flaws in any decision to take a risk. The high sense of self-worth of INFPs can contribute to high expectations. They do not have the go-getter attitude to get what they want themselves, so they often just feel hopeless and unlucky even when they do know what they truly want.

Se Trickster

INFPs struggle with performance in all aspects of life. They are often clumsy and uncoordinated. They forget where items are supposed to be placed because they are oblivious to the physical environment unless it impacts them directly. INFPs often obligate others to do work in service of their goals. They need to make a habit of checking that the right people are put to a task at the right time.

Ti Demon

Nobody is more avoidant of the truth than an INFP. They understand that there is no such thing as a takeback. INFPs are trying to avoid the irreparable damage that comes from honesty. They use Ti Demon as a defense mechanism to cut people down when their reputation is trashed.

Four Sides of the Mind

ESTJ Subconscious

ESTJ Subconscious reveals the INFP's path to happiness. When we break through the fear of our inferior, it becomes aspirational, and we become strong and capable where we were previously weak and afraid. For INFPs, this means embracing embarrassment. A developed ESTJ Subconscious recognizes when authenticity is more important than keeping up appearances. It determines the respectable thing to be whatever leads to the truth in the long run.

ENFJ Unconscious

ENFJ Unconscious reveals the INFP's path to wisdom. This is when they plan out ways to contribute to other people. INFPs are more willing to choose a life path that will improve others to give back. This will inspire others to invest in them.

ISTP Superego

ISTP Superego reveals the INFP's path to love. Over time, INFPs realize that hiding the truth has adverse effects on the people around them. They use logic to solve the problems that have been staring them in the face for so long. ISTP Superego in its angelic form is about strengthening humanity at its pressure points. The Si Master of the INFP identifies the suffering of other people, and the Ti Angel determines clever solutions to ease their burdens.

Octagram

Unconscious Developed, Unconscious Focused (UDUF): "The Self-Reliant Truth Seeker"

UDUF INFPs typically experience significant adversity and trauma early in life, leading to a deep withdrawal into their own minds and reliance on internal truths. They reject external sources of power and authority, often feeling betrayed by systems that failed to empower them. These INFPs focus on cultivating personal wisdom and truth, sometimes becoming skeptical of external information and societal norms. They value authenticity and self-reliance, often seeking to establish their authority through a deep understanding of their own experiences and truths.

Summary

INFPs need to balance comfortable habits with uncomfortable truths. They extract trends from data to generate successful life principles. They get flack for being too selfish, but when they embrace their shame and make sacrifices for others, everyone will know them as beacons of human good.
